Kingston drop-in to showcase coastal protection plans
A plan for managing coastal erosion in Kingston will be on show at a drop-in event next week.
The project, which is being funded by the Scottish Government, will see a 500mm high shingle bank built between Lein Car Park on the west side of the village, and the main shingle ridge at the lagoon on the east side.
A new coastal monitoring station will allow residents to use their phones to take photos of the coastline, helping monitor changes over time.
Moray Council, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and NatureScot will be at the session between 3pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday 23 October, at Garmouth and Kingston Golf Club.
They’ll be available to answer questions from residents and hear their thoughts on how coastal erosion and flooding has affected the area.
Kingston was among the first areas of focus for the council’s wider Coastal Adaptation Plan, which has been developed for the entire Moray coastline.
Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee, Cllr Marc Macrae, said: “Community engagement is vital as we tackle the challenges of coastal erosion and flooding. This drop-in event is an opportunity for residents to voice their views, share ideas, and learn about the solutions being put in place to protect coastal communities across Moray.”
