A rural road in Moray has been closed until further notice after part of the carriageway collapsed along a 20 metre stretch following torrential rain.

An assessment of the damage to the Dallas-Knockando road is still being made and it is not known when the road will reopen.

The landslip, which has undermined the edge of the carriageway, occurred late on Tuesday near Aultahuish Bridge, two miles outside Dallas.

There is local access to farms and properties on either side of the landslip but the road is closed to through traffic and will remain so until further notice.

A Moray Council spokesman said: “Unfortunately the only diversion is fairly lengthy and traffic which would normally go direct from Knockando to Dallas will instead have to go via Archiestown, Rothes and Elgin, and in the opposite direction for traffic going between Dallas and Knockando.”

Moray Council area stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Forres in the west. The council and its 4,500 employees respond to the needs of 92,500 residents in this beautiful part of Scotland, which nestles between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands.

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live.
