Maximum Moray taxi fares to increase from November
Taxi fares in Moray are set to increase from 30 November 2026 following a statutory review by Moray Council's Licensing Committee.
At its meeting today (2 September 2026), the committee agreed a new fare card which will see the maximum fare for the first mile of a journey rise by 4p, from £3.96 to £4.00. The charge for each additional tenth of a mile will increase by 2p, from 33p to 35p.
All other fares, surcharges and charges will remain unchanged.
It should be noted that the fares approved by the committee represent the maximum amount that can be charged. Taxi operators can choose to charge less than the approved rates.
The review is required under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, which requires councils to review taxi fares at least every 18 months. The new fare card must be implemented by 30 November 2026.
As part of the review, Moray Council carried out a formal consultation between May and July 2026, inviting feedback from taxi operators, community councils and members of the public. Six responses were received. While views differed on the level of increase proposed, most respondents supported a rise in maximum fares and charges.

We recognise the financial pressures facing taxi operators, including rising fuel, maintenance and insurance costs, while also understanding the need to keep taxi services affordable for passengers.
“The agreed changes strike a balanced approach, providing a modest increase to the maximum fares while ensuring Moray continues to have a safe, reliable and accessible taxi service for residents and visitors.”
