Moray communities to create vision for their locality

COMMUNITIES in Moray are to be invited to prepare a Local Place Plan to help create their own vision for their area, and influence its development.

In Autumn 2022 community groups will receive an invitation to express their interest in preparing their Local Place Plan, offering the chance for collaboration on aspirations for big challenges including the global climate emergency, and tackling inequalities, as well as local issues. Local Place Plans will inform the preparation of the next Local Development Plan, which sets out what future planning in Moray will look like.

Local Place Plans will be prepared by a community body, and should include a proposal for the development or use of land, for example potential sites for housing, or which support climate change adaptations like renewable energy of flood mitigations. Open spaces, play provision, food growing or active travel are also viable proposals.

Chair of Moray Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services Committee, Cllr David Bremner said: “This is an unmissable opportunity for communities to tell us what will make a long-term, positive impact in their area; it could be anything from playpark provision to affordable housing.

“Community involvement is vital as these plans must be considered by the council when preparing the wider, long-term Local Development Plan, so they can really influence change on your doorstep – please get involved when your community is asked for input.”
