Moray Council appoints new Chief Executive
Moray Council has announced its new Chief Executive is Karen Greaves BEM, due to take up the post in Spring 2025.
Karen joins the local authority from Orkney Islands Council where she is currently the Corporate Director for Strategy, Performance and Business Solutions. Having joined Orkney Islands Council in 2002, Karen has held a number of roles in Community Social Services; Education Resources and Services. Karen became Head of Leisure & Lifelong Learning in 2012 before moving on to Head of Executive Support and subsequently Corporate Director.
Speaking about her appointment, Karen, said: “I’m delighted to accept this position with Moray Council, in a beautiful area that has great ambition and countless opportunities. I’m looking forward to getting started and bringing all my experience across a number of sectors with me. I’ve already received a warm welcome to Moray and am keen to get settled in the region. I’m ready to continue supporting and championing our fantastic, and vital, public services in this corner of the North East of Scotland.”
Moray Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, added: “After an extremely competitive assessment and interview process we’re delighted Karen will be joining us in Moray. The experience Karen brings in key services such as social care, education, education resources and leisure is timeous for where the council is in its transformation journey. I have no doubt Karen will diligently guide elected members and staff through the coming years with the enthusiasm and professionalism shown throughout the interview process. I look forward to working with Karen in the coming months and years.”
Born in Birmingham, Karen moved to Aberdeenshire at a young age and attended Ellon Academy. After studying Biochemistry at the University of Aberdeen, Karen joined Scottish Water where she worked for over six years before moving into local government. Karen understands business having run a number of family businesses in the motor trade and hospitality sector.
