Moray Council appoints new Equalities Champion and Joint Older Person’s Champion
Following resignations and changes to appointments, Moray Council has today (Wednesday 6 November) confirmed a new Equalities Champion, Joint Older Person’s Champion, as well as replaced their representative on the North East Pension Fund.
Cllr Graham Leadbitter previously sat on the North East Pension Fund for Moray Council but intends to submit his resignation later in December. He will be replaced by Cllr David Gordon, Speyside Glenlivet ward councillor, in the new year.
Previous Equalities Champion, Cllr Juli Harris, last week resigned from the role and will be replaced by Cllr Bridget Mustard with immediate effect. Cllr James Allan also stood down as Joint Older Person’s Champion and will be replaced by Cllr Peter Bloomfield, who will work alongside Cllr Sonya Warren, who continues as the Joint Older Person’s Champion.
Speaking as the new Equalities Champion, Cllr Mustard, said: “An Equalities Champion has a great number of causes and people to consider and advocate for and I look forward to doing that on behalf of my colleagues on Moray Council. I bring my personal and professional experience to the role and barely a meeting passes without me raising equalities issues, so I feel it’s a fitting role for me.”
Cllr Bloomfield added: “I’ve seen from my work with the Moray Integrated Joint Board how important it is to have older people represented at all levels of local and national government. I look forward to continuing the important work Cllr Allan started, alongside Cllr Warren.”
