Moray Council approves Buckie Harbour Masterplan
Moray Council has officially agreed a new Masterplan for Buckie Harbour, setting the stage for major developments that will support the long-term aspirations of the region.
The Masterplan outlines how Buckie Harbour will be expanded into a versatile harbour with capabilities for offshore wind vessels, cargo, fishing and cruise vessels. It includes options for extended quayside access, including heavy lift capabilities and laydown areas.
There will now be a four-week consultation on the Masterplan with local stakeholders.
The Masterplan is a key element of Moray’s approach to a “Just Transition” to a greener economy. Funding from the Scottish Government’s North East Just Transition Fund has already supported early planning and feasibility work.
Chair of Moray Council’s Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee, Cllr Marc Macrae, said: “This is a big step forward for Buckie and for Moray. The Masterplan gives us a clear vision for how we can grow our economy while supporting clean energy and protecting the environment. The potential for Buckie, and Moray, to become a successful hub for the maritime sector is huge and I can’t wait to see how this project transforms our offering.
“The council will now begin working with partners, including Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the offshore renewables industry, to bring the plan to life and attract investment to make the plan a reality.”
