Moray Council approves Woodland and Forestry Strategy
Moray Council has approved its new Woodland and Forestry strategy, following a meeting of its Planning and Regulatory Services Committee today (Tuesday 11 March).
The strategy, developed with input from various experts, will guide decisions on woodland creation, forest management, and related funding. It will mainly be used by landowners and managers, Scottish Forestry, Moray Council and stakeholders.
It’s designed to help Scotland’s transition to net zero, and will also aid the Scottish Government’s commitments on reversing biodiversity loss; increasing community health and well-being and sustainable development and economic growth.
Moray is one of the most wooded regions in Scotland, with 34% of the area covered with woodland.
Chair of Moray Council’s Planning and Regulatory Committee, Cllr David Gordon, said: “The Woodland and Forestry strategy is an important step in ensuring that Moray continues to play its part in supporting local communities and the economy.”
