Moray Council launches consultation on Home to School Transport
Moray Council is inviting pupils and their families to help shape the future of school transport in the region.
With existing contracts due to end within the next 12 months, the council is reviewing its Home to School Transport policy to make sure new arrangements continue to meet the needs of pupils and families.
Each year, Moray Council spends around £5.3m to provide school transport. About 89% of eligible pupils travel on dedicated school buses, with the remaining 11% using council-operated vehicles.
The council is seeking views on key areas of the school transport policy, including the eligibility distance for free school transport, the option for mileage payments in appropriate cases, and the safety of walking routes.
The Home to School transport survey is open until Sunday 8 June, and feedback provided will directly shape future school transport arrangements. A summary of the findings will be shared over the summer period.
Deputy Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Bridget Mustard, said: “We want to make sure our updated school transport arrangements work for all pupils and families, providing safe, reliable and practical solutions. This consultation is a vital opportunity for everyone to have their say and help shape a system that truly supports our children’s education.”
