Moray Council launches consultation on relocation of Forres Academy
Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee has today (Tuesday 16 September) agreed to start a statutory consultation on relocating Forres Academy to a new site next to Applegrove Primary School.
The current proposal is for the new Academy to move a short distance from its current location. The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 requires the council to carry out a formal consultation on any changes to the school estate.
The consultation on the relocation of Forres Academy will run from Thursday 18 September until Thursday 13 November 2025. Local residents in Forres are encouraged to take part in an online survey and share their views on the proposal.
A public meeting will be held at Forres Academy on Tuesday 4 November from 6.30pm to 8pm.
A further online meeting will also be held on Thursday 6 November 2025 at 7pm, if requested. Please email learningestate@moray.gov.uk to confirm attendance at the online event.
Comments on the proposal can be made by either emailing learningestate@moray.gov.uk or posting in writing to FAO Anne-Marie Ballantyne – Forres Academy Relocation Consultation, Room 231, Moray Council Office, High Street, Elgin, Moray, IV30 1BX.
A report on the consultation, including independent feedback from Education Scotland, will be presented to the Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee in February 2026, before a decision is made by the full council.
Full consultation information is available on Moray Engage.
