Moray Council observes International Workers’ Memorial Day 2026

Flags have been lowered at Moray Council headquarters in Elgin in recognition of International Workers’ Memorial Day.

Held annually on 28 April, the day provides an opportunity to remember those who have died, been injured or suffered an illness through their work. It also highlights the ongoing importance of ensuring safe working conditions for all.

Moray Council Chief Executive, Karen Greaves, said: “International Workers’ Memorial Day gives us a moment to pause and remember those who have lost their lives or suffered because of their work.

“It is a moment to reflect on the human cost of work-related harm and to honour the lives behind the statistics. Their loss should never be forgotten, and the impact on families, friends and communities is lasting.”

Moray Council marked the day in shared observance with various trade unions.

International Workers’ Memorial Day is recognised worldwide, with organisations and communities coming together to pay tribute and to reinforce the importance of health and safety at work.
