Moray Council recruiting covid support teachers
Recruitment for 20 new covid support teachers for Moray’s schools has begun.
Moray Council received £800,000 additional funding from the Scottish Government to enable the recruitment of staff to support pupils to re-engage with learning after the extended lockdown period caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
The recruitment of 12 teachers and eight home school link workers has begun with the first eight teaching posts being advertised from today (Friday 14 August) for two weeks.
The teachers in these positions will work across a number of schools where the need for additional teachers has been identified to assist pupils.
Speaking as the recruitment began, Cllr Sonya Warren, Chair of the Children and Young People’s Services committee said: “We had a great response to our teacher recruitment over the summer and I’m sure we’ll have a number of candidates keen to take up a post supporting pupils to re-engage with learning. Being able to support the education of our young people by investing in more teachers is a positive start to reintroducing formal learning in their lives.”
Head of Education for Moray Council, Vivienne Cross, said: “Lockdown was a challenging situation to find ourselves in and our teachers will be using the first few days back at school to focus on establishing routines including movement, sanitisation, lunches and classroom routines in very different buildings. It’s also an opportunity to check in with pupil wellbeing and then establish where they are in their learning. This will help us to focus the covid support teacher posts where they are most needed.”
