Moray Council reviewing polling places

Moray Council is carrying out its regular review of polling places and looking for public input until 7 March 2025.

The council has a duty under the Representation of the People Act 1983 to review all polling districts and polling places regularly.

The review requires the council to:

  • make sure that, as far as possible, all voters in the constituency have reasonable facilities for voting.
  • make sure that, as far as possible, the polling stations we manage are accessible to everyone.  When choosing a polling place, we need to consider the accessibility needs of people with disabilities.

This review does not cover the changing of ward or constituency boundaries, these boundaries are determined by the Boundary Commission for Scotland.

Lists and maps of current polling places and districts can be found on Moray Council’s website, alongside the survey to respond to the current review here.

Returning Officer for Moray Council, Denise Whitworth, said: “We have a duty to ensure voting facilities meet certain requirements and I’d encourage anyone who has a view on this to get involved with the review. It’s extremely helpful for us to know how the experience of polling places is for our voters in Moray, so we can make sure we’re using the most appropriate venues possible.

“We’ll publish the feedback from this initial stage of consultation before any amendments are put to council in May. Specific proposals or any changes will be consulted on with the public again after that, with a view to any new arrangements being in place from September 2025 onwards.”

More information on the review, including current polling districts and places, can be found here and the survey can be completed here.
