Moray Council thanks firefighters who fought Culbin Forest fire

Cllr Peter Bloomfield, Chair of Moray Council’s Police and Fire and Rescue Services Committee, has issued a statement, thanking the firefighters, and emergency service colleagues, who tackled the recent fire at Culbin Forest.

Cllr Bloomfield said: "I want to take a moment to pay tribute to the remarkable firefighters in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the specialist teams and support crews who worked tirelessly over the past several week tackling the fire at Culbin Forest. Their bravery, endurance, and professionalism in dealing with such a prolonged and dangerous blaze have been nothing short of heroic.

"The recent and tragic loss of two firefighters in Oxfordshire—who gave their lives while responding to a fire at a former RAF base—serves as a stark reminder of the risks these individuals face daily. It underscores the profound debt of gratitude we owe to those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect others.

“I would also take the opportunity to remind members of the public to avoid open flames in our precious open spaces, particularly while the land is so dry. As we enter the summer months it’s timely to remind ourselves of how to behave and care for our beautiful area.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks and deepest appreciation to everyone involved in the emergency response, including Police Scotland colleagues. You are truly inspirational.”
