Moray Council’s Route Map to Net Zero approved by full council
The routemap sets out how the council will cut its carbon emissions and takes the next step in the council’s journey to tackle climate change.
The council has recently reported a 17% reduction in its annual carbon emissions in 2020/21 and is making good progress on a number of actions identified within the Strategy.
Alongside the new routemap, an updated action plan has been published, setting out the current pathway for the council to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible by 2030. To achieve this goal, the council must target major emissions sources such as emissions from buildings, fleet vehicles, waste, and operating emissions.
Moray Council’s Principal Climate Change Officer, Rod Lovie, said “This route map builds on the Climate Change Strategy by detailing what the council has to do to achieve net zero by 2030. This is no easy task. Significant changes must be made and decisions taken quickly to meet the goal.
“The council is committed to playing its part to slow global temperatures rises, recognising that this will not only help prevent suffering caused by the impacts of climate change, but also bring benefits to Moray such as new employment and economic opportunities in green industry, improved health and wellbeing, and opportunities to enhance Moray’s environment.”
