Moray Emergency Relief Fund passes major milestone.
Over £100,000 has been paid out to people in need by the Moray Emergency Relief Fund since it was launched on April 10th.
The fund has attracted nearly £170,000 in donations from the local community, individuals and businesses.
There have been nearly 350 applications for help from the fund, which has been launched and led by the Lords-Lieutenants of Moray and Banffshire.
Some recipients of support have been aided by the fund more than once as the difficulties experienced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to hit some hard.
Moray’s Lord-Lieutenant, Major General Seymour Monro, said it’s been hugely satisfying to know that so many people are being helped.
“Those in COVID 19 related difficulties are being helped through the generosity of local people,” he said.
“Moray is pulling together, and it is heart-warming to receive messages of thanks from people whose financial problems have been eased. Many say they have been given hope when their cheques arrive.
“We anticipate that we will be dealing with applications for some time to come.”
Applications are assessed by volunteers within the Lieutenancies, and each grant is processed as soon as the referees and other criteria have been checked, normally within 24 hours.
Lord-Lieutenant of Banffshire, Andrew Simpson, said: “The work of the Moray Emergency Relief Fund has seen the community of Moray come together to provide support in these difficult times.
“Not only are we grateful to individuals and businesses for their generous contributions, but also for the practical help and advice given by third sector organisations, voluntary groups and council officials, which has been invaluable.
“This has enabled practical support to reach people quickly. By working together we have been able to help individuals and families through these challenging circumstances.”
