Moray Libraries to live-stream events from Edinburgh International Book Festival
Book-lovers across Moray will be able to watch major Edinburgh International Book Festival events live from local libraries next month, as part of a new pilot scheme.
Buckie, Elgin, Forres and Keith libraries will live-stream a series of high-profile talks, as part of a new project designed to widen access to the Festival.
The line-up includes comedian and novelist Ruth Jones; The Girl on the Train author Paula Hawkins; former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon; and prolific writer Alexander McCall Smith.
A final event, aimed at young readers, will feature children’s authors Michael Rosen and Chris Riddell in a theatrical introduction to Shakespeare.
Events run from Tuesday 12 to Saturday 23 August, with different libraries hosting the various live streams. Full details of the line up can be found here.
All events are free to attend, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The pilot is a collaboration between the Edinburgh International Book Festival and local authorities across Scotland, designed to bring the buzz of the festival to communities that might otherwise miss out.
Moray Council’s Principal Librarian David Hayden said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people across Moray to experience world-class literary events without needing to travel. We’re proud to be part of a project that supports local access to culture and celebrates the importance of reading.”
Noelle Cobden, Director of Communities and Equalities at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, said: “We are delighted to be working with Moray Council, alongside 12 local authorities across the country, to bring what we do to people who can’t physically make it to the festival in person in August. Featuring a wide range of authors and covering a huge breadth of topics, we hope these events will inspire new audiences and readers and create opportunities for fun this summer.”
