Moray public thanked for consultation engagement
Moray Council has thanked residents for their recent engagement in budget consultations.
Closing earlier today (Wednesday 4 December) was the further consultation on the future of library and information services. The proposals consulted on can be found in the relevant drop-down here. Interim Chief Executive, John Mundell, and Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, met with local campaigners outside Moray Council HQ on the same day.
After two previous rounds of engagement on the future of library services, the next stage of the process is for the feedback from the over 2,000 responses to the latest survey to be analysed. This will be reported to elected members in order to make an informed decision on the current proposals early in the new year. At that point specific issues raised during the consultation will be addressed, particularly on how any alternative service offering would serve our communities, and any amended proposals that come as a result of the feedback received.
Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “I’m grateful to everyone for taking the time to give their views on the wider budget position and the specific library proposals. I’m especially appreciative for the understanding that difficult decisions need to be made.
“While there is still considerable uncertainty around budget settlements, we’ve already approved £1.1m of savings with £0.4m more indicated. Leaving us £11.2m to find. That is not easy and it will lead to service transformation. How we transform our services is a difficult question and one that needs input from the public, which is why engaging with these consultations is so important.”
