Moray pupils become sports ambassadors

Two Milne's High School pupils have been flexing their muscles as Sports Ambassadors for the area.

Since attending the Young Ambassadors (YA) conference in Aberdeen, Milne's High pupils Hugh Allan and Briony Stewart have been actively involved organising sporting activities for their peers.

The pair surveyed pupils to establish what other sporting opportunities pupils were interested taking part in. They also set up an Instagram account, updated with highlights of activities and success stories which Hugh and Briony have been promoting.

In the first term the pair ran Boccia sessions for the ASN department.

Briony linked up with the local Quasar hockey club to deliver after-school sessions for primary and secondary pupils, and Hugh delivered after school basketball and soft archery to local primary school pupils.

This term Hugh is looking to deliver some primary school football, as well as soft archery for a target group within the high school. He is also planning to run an S1 dodgeball competition with other school pupils as part of his ‘Competition Organiser’ training course.

Meanwhile Briony is targeting a hockey coaching course to gain more knowledge for her after-school sessions.

Active Schools coordinator, Lorna Young, nominated the pair as ambassadors.

“The amount of time and effort these two pupils have committed to helping their community has been inspiring,” she said.

“They are two very reliable and enthusiastic young people who want the local schools to have as many opportunities to take part in sport as possible.”
