Moray schools recognised for WW100 Commemorations
Lt Colonel Grenville Johnston, H M Lord-Lieutenant of Moray is delighted to announce that:-
Mosstowie Primary School
Dallas Primary School
Lossiemouth High School
Have been awarded a “Certificate of Excellence” by WW100 Scotland Commemorations Panel in recognition of their outstanding commitment towards understanding the impact of World War One on Scotland and so ensuring that the legacy of the War is remembered by this and future generations.
The certificate is signed by Lt Colonel Johnston CVO OBE TD, as Lord-Lieutenant of Moray and Professor Norman Drummond CBE FRSE Chair, Scottish Commemorations Panel and will be presented to the pupils at the start of the new term.
The names of the schools and what they have done are also to be recorded in a time capsule which will be closed in the Autumn and will remain on display in the new Poppyscotland museum until it is opened on 4th August 2114.
Lt. Col. Johnston said: “I do know that many schools ran very good WW1 projects during the four years of commemoration. The fact that we have earned three Certificates of Merit is a great reflection on the hard work of all schools, their staff and the pupils. I am very proud of them all.
I very much look forward to presenting Dallas Primary School, Lossiemouth High School and Mosstowie Primary School with their certificates when term starts.”
Moray Council Convener Shona Morrison added: “We have such close ties with the military in Moray that it’s second nature to many of our young people to commemorate and remember the impact of war locally. To be recognised in this way by the WW100 Scotland Commemorations Panel is wonderful for the schools involved and the young people should be very proud that they’re honouring the legacy of those involved in the conflict.”
