Moray students complete career ready internship

Two S5 pupils from Moray have finished a four-week internship at Moray Council as part of the Career Ready Programme.

Over the past month, Lucy Field and Maddie Garioch have been learning about different jobs within the council and taking on various tasks to help them get ready for the working world. Both pupils worked in different services, including education, legal, organisational development, environmental services, communications, and business support.

The pair rounded off their time with the local authority with presentations about their time with the council.
Lucy Field, a Lossiemouth High School pupil, said: “This experience has given me a real insight into a professional workplace. I’ve become much more confident and resourceful. Presenting my experience was a highlight because it summed up everything I’ve learned.”

Maddie Garioch, also a Lossiemouth High School pupil, added: “This internship has helped me see what a career in law could be like. Everyone was really supportive and friendly. The Career Ready Programme has really helped me build my confidence and communication skills.”

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “I’ve heard nothing but good things from the mentors. Lucy and Maddie made the most of this opportunity to learn about the workplace and consider their future careers.

“I also want to thank all the mentors who took part in this programme. We’re striving to add more places for the next group of interns.”
