Moray Young Musicians 2025 winner announced

An audience at Elgin Academy enjoyed stunning performances from 10 talented secondary school musicians, as the third annual Moray Young Musicians competition took place.

The tightly contested final saw Chloe Campbell, a fiddler from Milne’s High School, announced as winner, after performing two sets of tunes by contemporary traditional composers – and a tune she composed herself in the past month.

Chloe will now represent Moray at the highly prestigious Scottish Young Musician and Rotary Young Musician competitions later this year.

Runner-up awards were presented to trumpeter Finlay Mcluckie and vocalist Huck Whittle, both pupils at Elgin Academy.

Principal Teacher of Music Instruction and Performance in Moray, Alexander Davidson added: “The level of talent on display was incredibly hight, and it is always a fantastic to see young musicians challenge themselves and to achieve new heights. What is especially heartening is that many of the finalists have have taken part in Council led activities, whether that’s lesson with one of the music instructors, or played with a school or Moray Music Centre ensemble, highlighting the important role it’s played in nurturing and developing their skills as performers.”

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “The competition was a real showcase of the incredible musical talent we have in Moray. All of the finalists should be immensely proud of their achievements – by all accounts their performances were of the highest standard, which is a testament to their dedication and effort.”
