Moray’s Community Planning Board approves key actions to tackle wildfire risk
The Community Planning Board has agreed two important steps to help protect Moray from the growing risk of wildfires.
A summit will be held in Moray by spring 2026, bringing together all key partners – including emergency services, landowners, and community representatives – to develop an Integrated Wildfire Management Plan. This plan will set out how agencies can work together to prevent wildfires, respond effectively when they happen, and build resilience for the future.
The Board will also continue to work closely with the Cairngorms National Park Authority to learn from their experience in leading collaborative wildfire management. This will help Moray adopt best practice and understand what resources and legal steps may be needed.
These actions follow a summer of devastating wildfires in Moray, including major incidents at Culbin Forest and Dava Moor. Between January and July 2025, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended 17 wildfire incidents in Moray. Police Scotland also reported eight wildfire-related calls in the same period. Across Scotland, wildfire risk is increasing due to climate change, land management practices, and human activity.
Chair of the Community Planning Board, Councillor Kathleen Robertson, said: “Wildfires are no longer rare events, they’re a growing threat to our communities, our landscapes, and our safety. By bringing partners together at a local summit and learning from the Cairngorms experience, we can take proactive steps to protect Moray and build resilience for the future.”
Further details on the summit, including date and venue, will be confirmed soon.
