Volunteers week-2

Moray’s volunteers recognised for National Volunteers’ Week

Moray Council is joining organisations, charities and voluntary groups around the UK in celebrating the contribution volunteers make to our communities.

The celebration starts on the first Monday in June every year and 3-9 June 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week.

In Moray, several get togethers are planned to celebrate volunteers who give up their time to support people in the community. Health and Social Care Moray; Libraries, Learning Centres and Heritage; and Active Schools and Community Sport are hosting events for invited guests to recognise all the volunteers who have supported their work:

  • Saturday 1 June, 11am-2:30pm – Organised walk followed by soup and a sandwich at the Harvest Centre, River Church in Elgin.
  • Thursday 6 June, 1pm – Library Volunteer Celebration at Elgin Library.
  • Friday 7 June, 6pm-8pm – Active Schools and Community Sport thank you event at Elgin Bowling Club.

Depute Chief Executive of Moray Council, Denise Whitworth, says Moray Council is looking forward to celebrating Volunteers Week: “Volunteering is a great way to give something back to the community and is an incredibly rewarding way to meet new people and learn new skills. Whether you have lots of time you can spare or just an hour one afternoon, whatever you can give makes such a difference. Thank you to all the volunteers past and present that have helped to give back and improve our community. There’re lots of different ways to get involved and I’d encourage everyone to get out and try your hand at volunteering.”
