More events to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee

FURTHER events to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee are set to take place over the extended bank holiday weekend from 2-5 June.

Lord-Lieutenant of Banffshire, Andrew Simpson, said: “The planners of these events are to be congratulated.  It’s wonderful to see how the organisers from across Banffshire have put together such a wide range of activities for the young and not so young. 

“These activities will not only mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen, but will also allow communities to come together and build partnerships for the future.”

See below for a day-by-day list of scheduled events:

Thursday 2 June

Ben Rinnes (9.30pm) – Beacon and piper organised by the Dufftown Royal British Legion.

Tomintoul Square Street Party (6pm - 10pm) -  50 free meals first come first served at each of the Clockhouse Restaurant, Hotel on the Square, Richmond Arms, and the Glenavon Hotel.  Live music and school choir, school art competition, giant outdoor games including jenga and noughts and crosses.  Bring a blanket. Culminating in beacon lighting at 9.45pm.

 

Friday 3 June

Craigellachie (7.30pm) - Party in the Hall with live music (strictly over 18s).

Dufftown (5.00pm) - Royal School Disco for nursery and primary school children.

Mulben (11am - 4.30pm) – Kermis, at Touchdown Memorial Home for Horses, The Stables, Fangorn Farm, Keith – games, stalls and family activities.

Saturday 4 June

Land Girls Memorial, Clochan (10.30am) - Tree planting with The Lieutenancy of Banffshire.

Dufftown (1.30pm - 4.30pm) – Vintage Tea Party with live music in a marquee.

Keith (2pm) – Bring a picnic to a picnic at St Rufus Park & Episcopal Church Garden.

Newmill (12pm-4pm) - Jubilee Picnic in the Newmill Playing Field.

Portknockie (12pm – 4pm) - Party in the Park at the McBoyle Hall & Park – family games and music.

The Grant Hall, Rothes is also doing an invitation only over 65s, Rothes postcode afternoon Tea.

 Sunday 5 June

Aberlour (2pm - 4pm) - Bring a picnic to a picnic. Aberlour Pipe Band, races and games for the family.

Buckie (12pm-5pm) – Family Fun Day in the main square with family entertainments and stalls.

Dufftown (12pm) Children’s Cinema; (4pm) – Adult Cinema in the Royal British Legion.

Edinvillie Hall (2pm - 4.30pm) - 1950s style afternoon tea for those with an Edinvillie postcode.  Invitations have been sent. 

Glenlivet Big Lunch (1pm - 4pm) at Glenlivet Public Hall with Glenlivet and Inveravon Community Association and Tomintoul and Glenlivet Development Trust.  BBQ, Kid's competitions, live music, treasure hunt, giant games, cake competition and quiz Tree planting at 230pm.  Bring a picnic and picnic blanket.

Rothiemay (12pm-3pm) Picnic in the King George V Playing Fields, Rothiemay.

In addition to the events above, communities in Banffshire have been busy planting trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.  A book of memories has been published “The Spirit of Banffshire”.  This captures stories from people in historic Banffshire that cover the years of Her Majesty’s life and reign and vividly illustrate the changes that have taken place during that time.
