National award success for Moray councillors
Two Moray councillors have won top honours at this year’s Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) and CCLA Cllr Awards - the only national awards ceremony dedicated to celebrating the work of councillors across the UK.
Moray Council Leader Cllr Kathleen Robertson has been named Leader of the Year, while Cllr Marc Macrae (Fochabers and Lhanbryde) took home the award for Innovator of the Year.
The highly sought-after prizes recognise the outstanding contributions of local government leaders and innovators, highlighting the difference they make in their communities.
Judges praised Cllr Robertson for her ‘clear vision, collaborative working style and delivery for communities’, while Cllr Macrae was credited for ‘fresh ideas that deliver real results’.
Also representing Moray at the Awards was Cllr Amber Dunbar, who had been one of just four nominees shortlisted for the Young Councillor of the Year Prize.
Moray Council Chief Executive Karen Greaves said: “It’s wonderful to see Moray represented at a national level. These awards highlight the commitment of our councillors to serving their communities and demonstrate the positive impact that local government can have across the region.”
Cllr Robertson added: “I’m honoured to receive this award, which really reflects the strength of teamwork across Moray Council. I’m fortunate to work alongside passionate councillors, officers, and community partners who share the same goal – improving life for people across Moray.
“I’d also like to congratulate Cllr Macrae for his success, and Cllr Dunbar who was a very deserving nominee in her category.”
Cllr Macrae remarked: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won this award, and it’s great to see the work happening in Moray being noticed on a national stage. There’s a lot of creativity and determination across our communities and this recognition really belongs to everyone who’s helping to push things forward.
“Congratulations also to Cllr Robertson, and to Cllr Dunbar – both are very much deserving of the recognition they received.”
The wins follow a string of recent successes for Moray Council, including a National Performance Award for the Building Standards team and a COSLA Excellence Award nomination for a partnership project using recycled Christmas trees to protect sand dunes in Lossiemouth.
