New zones approved for Elgin primaries

New catchment areas for primary schools in Elgin have been approved by Moray councillors.

It follows a six-week consultation with parents, staff and community organisations earlier this year.

Councillors were told that the vast majority of responses to the consultation were supportive of the rezoning proposals, which will take effect from the start of the new school term in January.

The proposals which were approved by full council earlier this week include the creation of a catchment area for a new primary school which will require to be built to serve the rapidly expanding suburb to the south-east of Elgin.

Moray Council area stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Forres in the west. The council and its 4,500 employees respond to the needs of 92,500 residents in this beautiful part of Scotland, which nestles between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands.
