Nominations open for 2022 Moray Young Citizen Awards

THE search is on for worthy recipients of Moray’s Young Citizen Awards for 2022.

The annual awards recognise outstanding contributions of young people in Moray to local or overseas communities, with nominations accepted for primary and secondary school groups, community groups and individuals.

Run by Moray Council, Diageo, Police Scotland, and Elgin Rotary Club, the awards celebrate school spirit; develop an understanding of what citizenship means; build self-esteem and recognise good community work.

Nominations can be made under the following categories:

  • Primary school award
  • Secondary school award
  • Global citizenship award – open to primary and secondary
  • Community award
  • Moray Young Citizen Award: individual

Moray Council’s Head of Education, Vivienne Cross, is encouraging entries from across Moray to showcase the achievements of young people over the last year.

“We’re delighted to open the nominations for Moray Young Citizens 2022 after the success of our first virtual ceremony for the 2021 awards.  Since their inception, nominations continue to demonstrate the outstanding individual and group citizenship activities evident across Moray which have continued during the pandemic and for which we’re really proud.

“If you know of any child or young person who is selflessly giving of their time for their local community, please ensure that they are nominated for an award.

“Similarly we call on all schools and community groups to take the time to recognise the efforts of our children and young people across the various categories. Let’s make 2022 the best year yet and give Moray’s children and young people the recognition they deserve.”

More information on success criteria and how to enter a nomination can be found on Moray Council’s website. Nominations close on 28 February 2022.

Last year the event was held virtually due to pandemic restrictions; guidance on social gatherings will determine whether the 2022 ceremony is virtual or in-person. Details of winners and those highly commended in 2021 are available online.
