Community Council electoral roll registration

Nominations re-open in two community councils in Moray

Nominations have re-opened in Buckie and District and Findochty and District following the two communities petitioning the Returning Officer to allow them to run an election again after returning below the minimum number of members required to form in October 2025.

Nomination forms can be submitted from 6 January 2026 by anyone wishing to represent their Community Council who is 16 years of age or older, lives in the Community Council area and is on the electoral register for the area in which they are standing. The notice of election and nomination forms is available here

Candidates have until 4pm on Tuesday 20 January to submit their application. Candidates that stood in the unsuccessful elections for these community councils in October 2025 are not required to resubmit their nomination form.

Returning Officer, Karen Greaves, said: “As these communities were previously active they were able to petition the council, under the electoral scheme for community councils, to have their area’s election run for a further period.

“We look forward to receiving the new nominations by 4pm on 20 January 2026 from any member of the community eager to join their local community council.”

The number of available seats in each community council area and sub-division, if applicable, are:-

Buckie & District – 12 (Buckie: 8, Rathven and Arradoul: 4)

Findochty & District – 7

To stand as a candidate a completed and valid nomination form must be submitted to the Elections Office, Moray Council, Council Offices, Elgin IV30 1BX no later than 4pm on Tuesday 20 January 2026.

Nomination forms are available from the elections office by calling the helpline on 01343 563334, emailing elections@moray.gov.uk or online.

If the number of valid nominations exceeds the maximum number of seats available for a Community Council a postal ballot will be held after nominations close. If the number of nominations received are between the minimum and maximum membership, those nominated will be declared elected.
