7 May 2026 election

Notice of Scottish Parliament election published

The notice of election for the Moray constituency for the Scottish Parliament Election has now been published, formally starting the process.

Voters in Moray will take to the polls on 7 May to elect an MSP for Moray and regional MSPs for Highlands and Islands. Information about the election, documents and timelines and results will be shared online here

Key dates in the run up to polling day include candidate nominations opening on Tuesday 17 March 2026. Candidates will be formally announced following the close of nominations at 4pm on Wednesday 1 April.

Voters have until 20 April to register to vote and 21 April to apply for a postal vote or make changes to their existing postal or proxy vote arrangements. You can apply to register to vote online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote - to do this you’ll need your National Insurance number to hand. If you’re already registered to vote, you do not need to re-register.

The first release of postal votes will be issued for existing postal voters around 15 - 17 April and for newly-applied postal voters with the next release around 22 April.

If you can’t get to your polling place on polling day, voters also have the option of appointing a proxy voter to vote on their behalf. More information on this is available online here or voters can call the local Electoral Registration office on 01224 068 400.

On Polling Day, 71 polling places will be in operation across Moray open from 7am – 10pm.

Polling cards will be issued to registered voters in three batches with the first issue to registered voters around 17/18 March. You do not need your polling card or ID to vote, but it does help staff in polling places if voters have their polling card.

A comprehensive election timetable is available on Moray Council’s website

Results for the Moray constituency will be published on Moray Council’s website from 8 May, once the count has concluded. Results from the Highland and Islands regional vote will be hosted on The Highland Council’s website and shared on Moray Council channels, including website.

There will be updates posted on Moray Council’s Facebook and Instagram feeds (@MorayCouncil) throughout the count with the aim of results being live streamed through Moray Council’s YouTube channel
