Performance of council's industrial portfolio welcomed

MORE THAN 90 per cent of Moray Council’s business units are occupied, generating additional income of £174,000 in the last financial year alone.

Rental income generated by the council’s industrial portfolio has increased by £883,000 in the last decade, reaching a gross total of £1.9m in 2018/19.

Thirty new business units have been built in the last 10 years, including a major extension of March Road Industrial Estate in Buckie. The council’s industrial portfolio comprises 176 industrial building with a combined footprint of almost 35,000 square metres; 128 development and ground leases, and a serviced and unserviced land for future development of 55 acres.

Chair of Moray Council’s Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Graham Leadbitter, welcomed the above-target performance.

“Our industrial portfolio plays a vital role in promoting economic growth by providing affordable, fit-for-purpose business premises for lease by a range of organisations across Moray.

“We’ll continue to monitor performance and explore opportunities to acquire and develop land and buildings. It’s positive to see such a high occupancy rate and I’m encouraged to hear that this trend for high occupancy levels is set to continue.”

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
