Phase 1 of Moray’s instrumental music instruction service re-starts on Monday
Pupils across Moray will be raising their bows and picking up their drumsticks from Monday 21 September as the instrumental music instruction service resumes.
Face-to-face instrumental instruction in Moray was suspended when lockdown began due to the restrictions around the numbers in gatherings and playing musical instruments. Instructors moved online along with class teachers and continued to support pupils remotely, with great success, via Glow. Now Moray’s young string and percussion musicians are set to re-join their instructors face-to-face as they continue to prepare for their SQA exams.
Acting Head of Instrumental Instruction at Moray Council, Alexander Davidson, said: “We’ve missed making music, but the safety of pupils and staff has to come first, so we’re looking forward to be seeing (and hearing) our first musicians live since March with all the appropriate covid secure measures in place.
“Whilst local and national limitations are in place we’re prioritising students in secondary schools and those who are preparing to sit their SQA exams first. There are still national restrictions in place that mean we’re unable to re-start face-to-face woodwind or brass instrumental instruction just yet, however, woodwind and brass instructors are still engaging with their pupils via MS Teams
“We’re working on the finer details and arrangements in order to offer remote live video lessons, ensuring as many of our pupils can benefit from instrumental music instruction as possible at this time.”
Details about future Moray Music Centre events, concerts and rehearsals will be given directly to students in due course. Pupils interesting in coming along to Moray Music Centre can still register online.
