Election poll cards issued

Poll cards on their way for Scottish Parliament election

Poll cards for the Scottish Parliament Election are being issued to voters in Moray this week.

The notice of election was posted on Moray Council’s website on Monday 16 March, triggering the pre-election period.

Now, over 64,000 poll cards are dropping on the doormats of registered voters across the area, ahead of the election on 7 May. Voters will notice a difference in poll cards this time as they’ll be in the form of a letter inside an envelope rather than the traditional card.

It’s helpful, but not compulsory, if voters bring their poll card to the polling station.

The deadline for registering to vote is 20 April, and 21 April for registered voters applying for, or makes changes to, a postal or postal proxy vote registration

A reminder that there are two ballot papers provided for a Scottish Parliament election. A lilac ballot paper to choose your constituency MSP and a peach ballot paper to choose a party or independent candidate for the regional seats. Each ballot paper should be marked once with ‘X’ in the box next to the candidate or party you want to vote for.

At the count on 8 May, constituency votes will be counted first. The candidate with the most votes in each constituency wins.

Regional votes are counted next, and regional MSPs are elected using a formula. This means that the number of seats a party gets in total across a region is about the same as the percentage of votes it receives.
