Polling district and polling place review under way
A REVIEW of polling districts and polling places is being carried out by Moray Council.
The review will help the council decide which polling districts and polling places – the building where people cast their vote – will be used in future elections. It will make sure that those eligible to vote in the constituency have reasonable facilities for voting and, as far as possible, meet accessibility requirements.
Two rounds of public consultation are part of the review process, and comments on the first round are being accepted until Monday 11 November 2019. Proposals for amending polling places and districts will be drafted, followed by the second round of public consultation, after which they are reported to council for approval.
Copies of current polling districts, polling places, and guidance on how you can respond to the consultation, can be viewed on Moray Council’s website (www.moray.gov.uk/elections) or in person at Elgin, Forres, Buckie and Keith Access Points.
The review, which is required by the Representation of the People Act 1983, does not cover the changing of ward or constituency boundaries, as these are determined by the Boundary Commission for Scotland.
Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
