Polling place changes in Moray agreed following public consultation

Moray Council has completed the second phase of its polling place review and agreed to change the location of two polling places following public feedback.

The review, which is required by law every five years, aims to make sure polling places are accessible and suitable for voters. After a public consultation held from 7 July until 1 August 2025, the council received over 100 responses and carefully considered the feedback.

Following strong support from the community, the council has agreed to:

Move the polling place in Ward 2 from Rothiemay Primary School to Rothiemay Hall.

    • Out of 50 responses, 45 supported the move.
    • Rothiemay Hall had previously been used and is now suitable again following building improvements.

Move the polling place in Ward 7 from Greenwards Primary School to the Army and Reserve Centre on Edgar Road, Elgin.

    • Out of 51 responses, 44 supported the move.
    • Concerns were raised about the disruption to pupils, especially those with additional support needs, when the school is closed for polling.

Moray Council’s Returning Officer, Karen Greaves BEM, said the moves are in direct response to the feedback received: “Many residents expressed concern about schools closing on polling days, which affects children's education and creates childcare challenges. The Army and Reserve Centre is close to Greenwards Primary School, has good public transport links, and offers better facilities for voters and staff. Rothiemay Hall is now fully accessible and ready to be used again. We’re pleased to be able to make these changes as a direct result of resident feedback and all changes will be kept under review.”

These changes will be in place for future elections, including the Scottish Parliamentary Election in May 2026. The council will publish statutory notices nearer the time and update the electoral register accordingly.
