Praise for those attending Moray's first Pride parade

MORAY Council’s Equalities Champion, Cllr Juli Harris, has praised those who attended Moray’s first Pride parade at the weekend.

Joined by the Leader and Civic Leader of Moray Council, Cllrs Kathleen Robertson and John Cowe, respectively, and Cllr Draeyk van der Horn, Cllr Harris said she was delighted to attend with friends and colleagues.

“Firstly in my role as Equalities Champion for Moray Council, and also as a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community who are a part of my family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues, and an integral part of every community in Moray.

“It was particularly heartening to see the large and very colourful turnout, representing all sectors of the people of Moray and visitors to the area, who had come along especially to support the event.

“I also applaud the many young people who came out to promote equality, diversity and respect for all, as we progress towards eliminating discrimination against members of the LGBTQ+ community at all levels of society.”

Sergeant Mark Bayliss, from Elgin Police Station, added: “Our officers were pleased to attend the Pride celebrations in Elgin over the weekend. The event passed without incident, as the community came together to celebrate tolerance and inclusivity.

“Alongside our partner agencies, Police Scotland will continue to work hard to ensure Moray is a safe place to live, work and visit for everyone.”
