Progress on Moray Council’s ASN services review

Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure committee has today (Tuesday 20 February) scrutinised the Additional Support Needs (ASN) review and action plan.

The review of ASN in Moray started before the Covid-19 pandemic, which somewhat stalled progress.

This report highlights the progress now made and the next steps for the reviewed priorities in the strategy. It looks at alternative curriculum, resource allocation, policy guidance, training and development, central ASN structure and Moray provision.

A comprehensive Change Management Plan and a clear timeline for a move from Enhanced Provision Unit to Enhanced and Flexible Provision will now be brought forward.

The vision for the service is that education will be nurturing, inclusive and meets the needs of all learners within the community.  A focus on further training and development of staff, supplementing their skills and supporting them to improve will help to achieve this vision.

Full details on the progress and next steps can be found in the committee papers.

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “The ongoing review of our ASN services is incredibly important to ensure all children of Moray receive the support they need and to feel included in their learning.

“With these agreed priorities I hope to see continued improvements to the ASN service where it’s efficient, flexible and allows all children and young people across Moray to thrive.”
