Public to choose new Keith nursery name
Locals are being asked to vote on the name for their new £1.8 million nursery, currently being built next to Keith Grammar School.
The nursery, part of the early learning and childcare (ELC) expansion across Moray, is due to open in summer 2021 and will increase ELC provision in the area by up to 60 places.
When construction began in September 2020 the request for name suggestions prompted over 40 entries, with special mention to Eliot, who attends the nursery, for hoping to see his name in lights with “Eliot’s nursery” - his preferred option.
Moray Council’s ELC team, alongside Flexible Childcare Services Scotland (FCSS), who run the nursery, have shortlisted these to the below options, which members of the public are now being asked to choose from online.
Strathisla Children’s Centre – Strathisla is an area and river in Keith.
Gowan Children’s Centre – Gowan is the Scots word for daisy.
The Friendly Town Nursery – Keith is also known as the Friendly Town.
The public has until Monday 30 November to vote for their preferred name online – the name with the most support will be announced in the new year.
