Nominations sought for Moray young citizen awards

Recognising Moray’s young citizens

Nominations are now open for the Moray Young Citizen Award Scheme to showcase outstanding contributions to communities by school students and the area’s young people.

Run in partnership with Diageo, Police Scotland, Moray Council and Elgin Rotary Club, the awards celebrate extraordinary community commitment by Moray’s young in the following four categories:

  • Primary school award
  • Global Citizenship - open to primary and secondary
  • Secondary school award
  • Community award

Chief Education Officer for Moray Council, Vivienne Cross, says this year in particular could see some extremely deserving nominations.

“This hasn’t been an ordinary year for anyone and we know some of our young citizens went above and beyond for others during lockdown. We want to hear about all of them so we can celebrate their extraordinary efforts.

“We rely on our schools to nominate students for their activities in school but we know there are community groups and organisations who would like recognition for young residents’ participation out of school. This is the ideal opportunity for that.

“The partnership with Diageo, Police Scotland, Elgin Rotary Club and Moray Council has seen the awards go from strength-to-strength each year, and we expect this year will once again showcase the best of our young people.”

Participation is open to primary and secondary school groups, community groups and individuals. All young people in Moray are eligible in the individual category.

Nominations are invited from schools, community and third sector groups for group awards.

The closing date for nominations for the awards is 31 January 2021. Full details and nomination forms can be found online.
