Regular consultation begins into Moray taxi fares

The next public consultation on proposals to review the maximum fares that can be charged by taxis operating within the Moray Council area has launched.

As the licensing authority for taxi operators in Moray, the Council is required by law to carry out a review of taxi fares every 18 months.

It is proposed that the maximum fare increase from £3.96 to £4.00 for the first mile, and from 33 pence to 35 pence for each additional tenth of a mile.

The maximum fare represents the highest amount a taxi operator is permitted to charge. Operators can choose to charge less if they wish.

The consultation will run until Friday 24 July 2026, and feedback received will be considered by the Licensing Committee before any final decision is made.

Councillor Tracy Colyer, Chair of Moray Council's Licensing Committee, said: “With rising fuel costs, we understand that it’s a difficult time for both taxi operators and consumers. This means it’s increasingly important to have fare structure in place that reflects current conditions, while remaining fair and reasonable.”

The consultation is available here.
