Renewal warning to Licensees

Renewal warning to Licensees

Licensees in Moray have until the end of May to renew their alcohol licence or face shutting their bars.

Personal licence holders who were issued with their licence on or before September 2009 also need to apply for a refresher course to meet licensing requirements.

Personal Licence Holders authorise the sale of alcohol in both on and off-sales establishments and as such have two important obligations:

  • They must undergo refresher training every 5 years to refresh their knowledge of the licensing regime, and send the training certificate to the Moray Council Licensing service.
  • They must apply to renew their personal licence every ten years, and lodge the renewal application no later than 3 months before expiry date of the licence.

Without a licence, licensees who are managers of premises will have to close their establishment or stop selling alcohol until a new premises manager with a valid license is named. To date, Moray Council have only received approximately 18% of renewal applications for the personal licences which will expire on 1 September 2019

The renewal form is the standard personal licence application form, available on the Moray Council website here

More information is on the council’s website, or queries can be emailed to licensing@moray.gov.uk.

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
