Renewed volunteering commitment from Moray Council
Moray Council has renewed its ambition to offer and support more community volunteering opportunities with an updated policy.
The policy has been shaped with existing volunteers, community councils and other stakeholders and outlines the council’s commitment to: encourage and support those who want to volunteer to add value to key services; work with key community bodies to support them in emergency situations; work in partnership with key local partner tsiMORAY to promote wider volunteering opportunities with community and third sector groups.
A cross-service Volunteer Forum will be set up to better co-ordinate volunteering and to ensure volunteers have access to training and good quality support. The agreement comes hot on the heels of Volunteers Week Scotland when volunteers across Moray were celebrated and thanked.
Chair of Moray Council’s Corporate Committee, Cllr Bridget Mustard, said: “We recognise that volunteers are a significant asset to our communities and this refreshed policy renews our commitment to build on the substantial role they already play throughout Moray.
“We hope volunteers, be it with the council or other organisations, feel valued and respected. This renewed approach sets out how we aim to make sure that is the case now and in future.”
