Residents asked to ‘help shape the future of Elgin’
Elgin residents are being asked to work with Council officers to help shape the future of the town.
Work on the new Moray Local Development Plan has started and will shape how land and buildings are used over the next 10-20 years which impacts on people's lives including work, travel, access to open space, play and health.
A drop in exhibition will take place at Elgin Town Hall on Saturday 27 May between 10am-3pm and locals are being asked to bring their ideas to inform how the council plans for developing Elgin and the wider Moray region.
The event will ask for ideas for improvement to Elgin, where new housing should be developed thoughts on regeneration of the town centre as well as posing Moray wide questions on climate change and infrastructure delivery. A facilitated session takes place with council officers at 11am and 2pm to map ideas.
The Elgin session follows similar events held in Forres, Aberlour and Dufftown looking at their areas. Events are also being hosted in Lossiemouth on 17 June, Fochabers on 22 June and Buckie on 26 August.
The feedback from all sessions will be used to input to the Local Development Plan 2027, which will provide Moray Council with a blueprint for development across the region.
The Elgin event will have representation from the Moray Growth Deal projects, including Early Years STEM who will be delivering family friendly STEM activities. Children will have the opportunity to explore the latest digital technology in STEM including augmented reality and coding with robots. Construction challenges and science investigations fun for all the family will also be on offer.
Speaking ahead of the event, Chair of Planning and Regulatory Services Committee, Cllr David Gordon, said: “This is a perfect opportunity for people in Elgin to have their say on how they want to see development progress in the area from 2027 and beyond.
“We know locals are creative and innovative, so now is the time to bring those skills forward and get involved with shaping the future of our community.
“Future development in the region affects everybody so it’s in all of our interests to get the Local Development Plan right for the area – that means taking on board the views of the wider community and that’s exactly what this session is about.”
