Residents urged to dispose of used needles responsibly after injury at recycling centre

RESIDENTS are being urged to dispose of used needles responsibly, after a supervisor at a recycling centre in Lossiemouth was injured by one found on the picking line.

Two needles have been found recently by members of the recycling team sorting through waste from residents’ purple bins at Moray Council’s Materials Recovery Facility in Lossiemouth, which is operated by Moray Reach Out.

Residents using needles/syringes for medical purposes should dispose of them in a sharps box – a specially designed rigid box with a lid – to protect themselves and others during the disposal process.

Sharps boxes are available on prescription and can be arranged through a GP or pharmacist.
