Rotary International President visits Greenwards Primary to celebrate RotaKids’ achievements
Greenwards Primary School in Elgin was delighted to welcome Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick, on Friday 6 June to celebrate the amazing work of its RotaKids and their contributions to the local community.
As part of the visit, President Urchick enjoyed a special performance by P6 pupils. They brought their Jacobites history project to life with a 35-minute show full of facts, reflections, music, dancing and highlights from their visit to Culloden. The performance was first shown in November to parents, carers and members of the Rotary Club. As it was so well-received, the pupils were invited to perform it again for this special occasion.
The P6 RotaKids also showed their caring spirit by raising £75 for the Elgin Rotary Foundation through a car boot sale. Earlier this week, they teamed up with the P5 RotaKids for a sponsored walk in support of Harry’s Hat, a hydrocephalus charity that has helped the family of one of their committee members. Their efforts raised an impressive £2450, showing real compassion and teamwork in support of a charity making a meaningful difference.
Celebrations continued at The Youth Cafe, where President Urchick met with around 28 young people and volunteers from Interact, Rotaract and Rotarians of Elgin Rotary. Over a light lunch, they shared stories, talked about their community work and showed the Rotary spirit in action across all age groups.
Miss Kirstin Mustard, one of the P6 teachers leading the project, said: “Our pupils have been so enthusiastic and dedicated throughout the RotaKids projects. They worked really hard for our shared learning performance, and they were excited to showcase their learning about the Jacobites and our Culloden trip. We were so proud to welcome the Rotary International President and share everything the children have achieved.”
Moray Council’s Head of Education, Vivienne Cross, commented: “The visit from the Rotary International President shows just how creative, community-minded, and committed our young people are. The RotaKids programme gives pupils fantastic opportunities to learn and make a difference, both in school and beyond. We’re incredibly proud of their efforts and the positive example they set for others.”
Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick added: “It was truly inspiring to see the passion, creativity and compassion shown by the pupils at Greenwards Primary. Their performance was outstanding, and their community spirit shines through everything they do. RotaKids is all about empowering young people to lead with kindness and purpose—and these students are a perfect example of that in action.”
