Schoolchildren attend Made in Scotland prizegiving

NEARLY 200 children completed the latest Made in Scotland reading challenge and were invited to a celebratory event at Elgin library.

The challenge was for schoolchildren to read four books either set in Scotland, written by a Scot or someone living in Scotland, between October and early November.

Author and illustrator John Fardell met the children who came along to celebrate their achievement. He presented every child that attended with a book as part of their prize, as well as creating a story with illustrations he'd encourage them to draw during the event.

Moray Council's Senior Librarian, Jane Sandell, said, “Made in Scotland showcases the wealth of writing talent in Scotland and allows children to choose books across a wide range of genres. And I love the prize-giving. The children are always so excited to meet an author, in many cases one whose books they have just been reading.”

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
