Second phase of engagement to shape future of Moray schools launches in Buckie ASG

Moray Council has today (Thursday 15 February) launched the second phase of their engagement to address the sustainability challenges of their current learning estate, focusing on Buckie Associated School Group (ASG).

The engagement aims to examine a number of factors, including the use, occupancy, suitability, and condition of all Moray schools. The goal is to deliver a modern, fit-for-purpose and affordable learning estate for communities across Moray.

Each ASG will be considered individually, allowing for a more detailed approach within each community. Following the launch in Forres ASG in September 2023, Buckie is the next area of focus.

The roll out of other ASG focused engagement across Moray will continue over the next 18 months.

Local residents in the Buckie ASG are invited to participate in an online survey where they can share their views and opinions on what they want from their schools. Local opinions are vital to help shape the future of the learning estate in the area. This survey runs until 8 March 2024.

Community drop-in sessions will be held at Buckie’s Fishermen’s Hall on 26 February from 11am-6pm and Cullen Library on 27 February from 2:30-7pm. This a chance for anyone who wishes to discuss and share their thoughts in-person to come along and speak with the team.

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s Services and Leisure Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “In order to provide the best educational opportunities for all children and young people in Moray we must ensure our learning estate is fit for 21st century learning. Input from our local community is vital in helping to make decisions for a sustainable future of our learning estate and I would encourage everyone to get involved with the online engagement.”
