September author sessions bring crime, Culloden and clearances

Moray Libraries are delighted to be working with local booksellers to host a trio of author events in September.

In association with Waterstones there are two highly anticipated events during the first week of September at Elgin Library.

The first on Tuesday 5 September, boasts not one but two eminent crime writers who will be discussing the latest publications. Lin Anderson, creator of the Rhona MacLeod forensic scientist novels and co-founder of the Bloody Scotland crime-writing festival will be talking with Fiona Cummins, an award-winning former journalist turned best-selling mystery writer. These authors’ most recently published novels will most definitely appeal to Moray’s regular readers since both are set in Scotland.

On Friday 8 September Waterstones is presenting an event with acclaimed author S G MacLean, talking about her novel, ‘The Bookseller of Inverness’. Shona is the author of the Alexander Seaton series and the Damian Seeker novels and this historical adventure tells a tale set in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden.

The final September session is sure to hit the headlines when journalist, broadcaster and writer, Sally Magnusson, will be the star of a coffee morning ‘in conversation’ event at Elgin Library on Tuesday 26 September. Her most recent publication Music in the Dark covers a dark period of Scottish history in the shadow of the Highland clearances, focussing on one woman’s struggle and her life and losses.

Sally has starred in sell-out events in the past at Moray Libraries featuring her previous books of both fiction and non-fiction and also her children’s book series. Local bookshop, Yeadon’s, will provide the books for sale at this event.

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr, Kathleen Robertson, said: “It’s exciting to work in partnership with local business to give people in Moray the opportunity to hear directly from some of Scotland’s top authors. To learn about the process of such inspired writing and see the faces behind the print is an opportunity not to be missed for any fan.”

Tickets for any of these events can be purchased from Elgin Library or online here.
