Speyside Challenge returns for 2025
The Speyside Challenge, inviting people to walk, wheel or cycle along the Speyside Way in Moray and log their journeys, is returning for a fourth year this September.
Participants can track either the number of trips they make or the total distance covered on the upgraded route from Craigellachie through Aberlour and Carron to Cragganmore.
Moray Council Leader Cllr Kathleen Robertson said: “The Speyside Challenge is a brilliant way to encourage healthy, sustainable travel; all while showcasing the stunning beauty of the Speyside Way. It’s encouraging to see so many people engage with this initiative year after year.”
Councillor Marc Macrae, Chair of Moray Council’s Economic Development & Infrastructure Services Committee, added: “It’s great to see the challenge returning once again. The Speyside Way offers a scenic and accessible route for people to get outside, stay active and enjoy the outdoors.”
Prizes will be awarded for those who log the most journeys or the greatest distance, with separate categories for walking/wheeling and for cycling.
There are a number of prizes on offer for participants, including the chance to win up to £500 to spend at outdoors shop Skedaddle Speyside in Fochabers.
Owner Sally Bruce said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been asked to be part of the Speyside Challenge, I personally have taken part in the past and this event is a fantastic way of motivating people to get active and move. Being active is great for promoting a healthier lifestyle both mentally and physically. We look forward to welcoming one of the lucky winners into our store.”
The challenge is part of the Speyside Low Carbon Hub project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Transport Scotland, and the Low Carbon Travel and Transport Challenge Fund. The project received £810,000 for the first phase of the project, between Craigellachie and Carron, and £635,000 for the second phase between Carron and Cragganmore.
Registration is now open, and full details on how to take part can be found here.
