Speyside High School-3

Speyside High inspection report released

Confident and motivated young people at Speyside High School have been praised by Education Scotland for their positive approach to learning and the pride they take in their school community.

Following a visit in December 2025, inspectors highlighted that pupils feel included and supported, and that there is a calm and caring atmosphere across the school.

The headteacher and senior leadership team were recognised for their strong teamwork and clear focus on supporting every learner to do their best. Staff were commended for building positive, respectful relationships that help pupils develop confidence and motivation.

Inspectors also praised the way young people work collaboratively with staff and partners to develop skills and contribute to school life. Encouragingly, the report found that pupils who need extra support are making good progress by the time they leave school.

While the report is very positive, it also identifies some areas for further improvement. These include continuing to raise attainment for all learners, ensuring high-quality learning and teaching, and strengthening wellbeing support.

Speyside High School Head Teacher, Patricia Goodbrand, commented: “I’m delighted that our young people have been recognised for their positive attitude and the welcoming atmosphere they help create every day. This report reflects the hard work of our young people, staff, and families, and we’ll continue working together to help every learner achieve their best.”

Moray Council’s Head of Education, Vivienne Cross, added: “It’s a very positive report and reflects the strong leadership of the Head Teacher and her staff team in supporting young people and families, and providing a high-quality learning experience. We’re proud of the positive culture and ethos across the school, and I wish every learner continued success as the school keeps working to improve.”
